The massive dump of snow in Greater Victoria has resulted in slow or no mail delivery in some areas.

A Canada Post spokeswoman said yellow alerts were issued twice this week on Vancouver Island.

“A yellow alert means that the recent severe weather conditions have resulted in delays in mail processing, and while best effort is being made for mail delivery, some mail may be delayed,” said Hayley Magermans.

Magermans said Canada Post is still playing catchup due to adverse weather conditions last week. Delays have been exacerbated by the significant accumulation of snow over the last few days.

“While we are doing our best to deliver, we encourage homeowners to continue to keep a clear and safe path to their home, not only for our people, but for all visitors this winter,” she said. “It takes a few minutes, but can help avoid a serious and potentially long-term injury that can happen in seconds.”

Magermans said anyone experiencing prolonged delays in service can call customer service (1-800-267-1177) and open a service ticket.

Mail delivery is also delayed in Eastern Canada, where Canada Post said a major snowstorm is making it too dangerous to deliver mail.

Quebec, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island all had their mail delivery cancelled on Wednesday, as did Halifax and Dartmouth in Nova Scotia, and eastern Ontario, including the Ottawa area.

Canada Post issued yellow service alerts for the rest of Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Thirty centimetres of snow or more have fallen on much of the the country, including on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
