Marshalls opening new location in Langford

Construction will start Monday on Greater Victoria’s second Marshalls department store location.

Construction will start Monday on Greater Victoria’s second Marshalls department store location.

According to a notice from GWL Realty Advisors, which manages the Millstream Village Shopping Centre in Langford, fencing will be erected around the site of a pair of vacant stores that will eventually be the new home of the discount retail giant.

The notice, circulated to all tenants of the centre, said the work will include internal and external construction on spaces that used to house La Vie en Rose and Mexx. The two spots will be converted into one store.

There was no indication how long the construction and lease improvements will take on the space, or when Marshalls plans on opening. Attempts to contact GWL and Marshalls were unsuccessful Thursday.

Marshalls opened its first store at Hillside shopping centre in the spring of 2014. That 29,400-square-foot store was part of an $80-million renovation of the mall with new anchor tenants.

Marshalls, an American retailer, succeeded at Hillside where Target did not. A two-level Target location closed there in 2014 after less than a year in business, giving way to a new Canadian Tire store.
