Kelowna-based Kot Auto Group is taking over Victoria Hyundai as of June 1 with plans to build a new facility in three years.

The family-owned business is led by president John Kot. Son Brandon will move to the capital region to serve as director of operations for Victoria Hyundai, a company statement said.

Scott Muir, also with the Kot group, is relocating to Victoria to become general manager of Victoria Hyundai, which has been held by AutoCanada.

The Kot group also owns Kelowna Hyundai, Buy Direct Truck Centre, Penticton Nissan, Maple Ridge Hyundai and Genesis Kelowna.

John Kot and sons Brandon and Jordan manage the daily operations of all the dealerships.

The company will have a total of 200 staff, once its newest acquisition with its 60 employees is included.

Victoria Hyundai will lease its current site at 525 Gorge Rd. East for three years. The company said it plans to build a 30,000-square-foot facility at a yet-to-be-named site.

The Kot company has a tradition of supporting local fundraisers and causes that inspire employees, a statement said. It plans to do the same in Victoria. “When a company supports local causes, we find there is a strong response from the employees.”
