Tim Hortons has joined other Canadian retailers in adding Interac Flash cards to the number of ways customers can make cashless payments at the counter.

The restaurant chain expects more than 2,300 locations across the country to be accepting the touch cards that can process a transaction with a quick tap by the end of October.

Rather than adding to a credit card balance, the Interac cards draw down the funds from the customer's bank account.

Unlike older types of credit and debt cards, the new generation of Interac cards use a quick-touch chip processor that doesn't require customers to enter PIN numbers or other information.
