Coaching firm unveils Elk Lake building plan

The owners of a planned new office building next to Elk Lake say it dovetails perfectly with their business by being close to water, running trails and Saanich Commonwealth Place.

The owners of a planned new office building next to Elk Lake say it dovetails perfectly with their business by being close to water, running trails and Saanich Commonwealth Place.

LifeSport business partners and coaches Paul Regensburg and Lance Watson are proposing to build a two-level building on the triangle-shaped property once home to the Elk Lake Restaurant.

Extensive landscaping and secure indoor bicycle parking for staff are part of the plan, Regensburg said.

"We are trying to not only put up a nice building, but carry on the theme of fitness and low emissions, incorporating Elk Lake, which we think is a gem," he said. "We think we are really nice fit in there."

They bought the site after Connie and Hon Dere decided to retire and close their restaurant in September after 30 years.

If all goes smoothly, the new 2,950-square-foot building would be in place by Father's Day on June 16, 2013, the date of the Saunders Subaru Victoria Triathlon. LifeSport has an event division and is responsible for the Subaru Western Triathlon series.

The plan is to create two side-by-side office spaces - one for LifeSport, now run out of home offices, and another for a like-minded tenant, Regensburg said.

Regensburg and Watson have submitted a proposal to Saanich. The plan must also go through the Vancouver Island Health Authority and Transportation Ministry, Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard said. The required zoning is already in place.
