China has own pipeline issues

The general manager of a Chinese pipeline company says his industry is up against numerous challenges.

The general manager of a Chinese pipeline company says his industry is up against numerous challenges. Yao Wei of PetroChina pipeline company, says China is expected to add 100,000 kilometres of new pipelines over the next decade, a big chunk of which PetroChina will build. That's more than double the length of pipe that has been built in China since the 1970s. While that's a big opportunity, Yao says there's a lack of technology, robust regulation and qualified talent to keep up with the huge growth. Yao made his remarks through a translator to a packed luncheon at the International Pipeline Conference.
