After a year of legal wrangling and negotiations, the former NewPage paper mill in Cape Breton is back in operation. Marc Dube, restructuring manager for new owner Pacific West Commercial Corp., says about 250 employees have been rehired and more workers are expected to return to the job in the coming days. The sale of the mill, now known as Port Hawkesbury Paper, was completed Friday. A $25-million settlement fund set up by former parent company NewPage Corp. and $18 million in provincial money kept the mill in hot idle for a year so it would be able to be quickly restarted.
