The BCHL Island Division race was supposed to be between the Victoria Grizzlies and Nanaimo Clippers. But someone forgot to tell the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Alberni Valley Bulldogs as the division is off to a fairly balanced start.

Jacob Brockman scored twice as the Capitals knocked off the Clippers 3-2 on Friday night. Then the Bulldogs (2-1-1) blanked the Capitals (2-3-1) 5-0 with NCAA Div. 1 Yale-bound Luke Pearson recording the shutout in a Saturday matinee.

The Saturday night match-up was between the Grizzlies (3-2) and Clippers (3-2), with Victoria prevailing 6-1.

“There’s been a lot of pent-up energy and all four teams have been playing well,” said Nanaimo coach Darren Naylor.

The Grizzlies and Bulldogs meet today in a matinee.

Each team is playing 20 games in the BCHL Island Division hub at Weyerhaeuser Arena in Port Alberni.
