Work on the Wilkinson Road project nears completion on Tuesday.

Traffic is expected to be moving along Wilkinson Road by the end of the month.

One of Saanich’s main roadways, Wilkinson closed between Mann Avenue and Greenlea Drive on June 6 to accommodate work on the bridge at Lindsay Street, at an estimated cost of $3.9 million.

Replacement of the 1935 bridge with a seismically safe one is part of a $6.5-million infrastructure package that includes boardwalks, stream restoration, cycling upgrades and a pedestrian bridge over the Colquitz River. The pedestrian bridge is part of an extension of the Colquitz Trail near the Wilkinson trailhead. The District of Saanich has not announced a day for the opening, but it’s imminent.
