The province has been a hot ticket for travellers so far this year, according to overnight visitor numbers released Friday by Destination B.C.

The number of overnight international visitors to B.C. in 2016 through July passed the 3.2-million mark, an increase of 12.5 per cent over the same period last year. More than 885,000 international visitors came to B.C. in July alone, an 11.8 per cent increase compared to July 2015.

“Every month so far this year shows that more and more tourists from around the world are recognizing B.C. as the place to make their vacation a time they’ll never forget. Every increase in international visitors supports our businesses and creates jobs in every region of the province,” said Shirley Bond, minister of jobs and tourism.

The province cited increased air access, a low Canadian dollar and Destination B.C.’s new international marketing strategy as the reasons for the increase in visitors.
