SURREY — Police have identified the 30-year-old man gunned down in a Surrey townhouse complex on Tuesday evening.

SURREY — Police have identified the 30-year-old man gunned down in a Surrey townhouse complex on Tuesday evening.

Surrey RCMP said several 911 calls were made just before midnight to report gunshots in the area of 72nd Avenue and King George Boulevard.

First responders arrived at the complex to find Amrendra Vijay Kumar suffering from gunshot wounds. Kumar, who lived at the complex, was pronounced dead at the scene.

After Kumar was shot, a vehicle was spotted speeding away from the area.

About 40 minutes later, Surrey RCMP were called to the area of 164th Street and 92nd Avenue where a car was burning.

“This vehicle is believed to be related to the earlier shooting and will be seized for further examination,” RCMPsaid in a statement.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, along with the RCMP, forensic investigators and B.C. Coroners Service, are looking into the shooting and asking the public for help.

Kumar was not known to police and does not show up in any police databases, police said at a news conference on Wednesday.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Police are hoping anyone who may have relevant dashboard camera footage will come forward to share the footage with police.

“We do not believe Mr. Kumar’s shooting was a random act and our detectives are working hard to determine motive,” said Cpl. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “We need those who knew Mr. Kumar to come forward and help us piece together the circumstances.”
