Prince George RCMP have arrested a 32-year old man suspected in multiple car thefts after a foot chase on Friday morning.

According to a media statement issued by police, the suspect was spotted near 5th Ave. and Hwy. 97 at 7 a.m., driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The suspect attempted to escape from police in the vehicle, but instead collided with a curb. The suspect then fled from the scene on foot, resulting in a search involving the RCMP's Air 3 helicopter and a police service dog.

The man was located hiding under the stairwell of a nearby residence by the police dog. He has been arrested for possession of stolen property. The man had been sought for a past theft of another vehicle.

"Prince George RCMP continues to target prolific car thieves, and will utilize whatever resources are required to apprehend those thieves, including calling in the North District's new Air 3 helicopter which provides valuable assistance in these types of arrests," said RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve McLeod in a media statement.

"It was this commitment to crime reduction, utilizing our police dog service and our helicopter that led to a quick and safe apprehension of this prolific offender."
