SURREY — It’s a video that could pass for the next Bond or Bourne franchise movie trailer.
Video website Live Leak on Friday released video footage of the hot pursuit of a rogue motorcyclist through Surrey streets, pedestrian walkways and even down a mall escalator.
The chase took place in the Guildford district on Feb. 20 and was shot from a police helicopter, a police car dashboard and security cameras at Guildford Town Centre Mall.
Surrey RCMP officers are investigating how the footage ended up on Live Leak, a police spokesman said.
The driver of the motorcycle, described as a white male in his 40s, is still at large, although the bike he was riding, a blue Harley Davidson, was discovered in a rural area of Langley, according to Surrey RCMP.
It had stolen out-of-province plates and police are still looking for the registered owner.
The helicopter picked up the chase shortly before 2 p.m. on Feb. 20, a Friday, after RCMP received calls about a motorcyclist driving erratically and at dangerous speeds on 108 Avenue approaching West 40th Street.
The driver weaved in and out of traffic, ran red lights and stop signs without touching his brakes and at times drove on sidewalks.
A voice recorded inside the helicopter is incredulous as the biker heads into the glass pyramid entrance to Walmart from the upper level of the Guildford Town Centre Mall parkade.
The angle switches to a security camera catching the biker coming down an escalator as a uniformed security guard scrambles after him on foot.
An exterior camera then picks up on the action as some automatic exit doors open.
Three boys are forced to jump out of the way, a woman jerks back her shopping cart in which a toddler is seated, and the biker is off again.
He crosses two pedestrian bridges over Highway 1, forcing two people walking toward him on the second bridge to quickly press against the handrail to avoid him.
The video ends as the biker exits through Tynehead Park at 96 Avenue and 168 Street.
