Police are appealing for the public’s help after a man was stabbed to death early Sunday at the Edmonds SkyTrain Station in Burnaby.

Mounties were called to the station for a report of an altercation just before 1 a.m. There they found a man in need of medical attention who was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

“We know there were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident; we are asking anyone who has information to contact police,” said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, media relations officer for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

IHIT is working on the case in conjunction with Burnaby RCMP and transit police.

Investigation of the incident has also caused some traffic problems in the area.

The bus loop at Edmonds was closed to both traffic and pedestrians, with buses detouring via Southpoint Drive and Station Hill Drive so passengers could access the station from the south side.

SkyTrain service to Edmonds was running normally through the station but all station access is limited to the south side through the landbridge behind the B.C. Hydro building and Station Hill Drive.
