METRO VANCOUVER — Seven people, including five children, were injured in a Port Moody house fire that is now under police investigation.
The fire broke out Sunday afternoon at a two-storey residence in the 3300-block of Dewdney Trunk Road.
“When crews arrived there were flames coming out of the front of the house,” said Port Moody fire chief Remo Faedo at the scene. “They were able to tackle it and knock it down quickly.”
All seven occupants managed to escape the burning house before firefighters arrived, said Faedo.
They were transported to hospital with varying injuries, said the B.C. Ambulance Service. One woman suffered severe burns, while a man had medium burns and smoke inhalation. The five children suffered from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but Faedo said the case is now a police investigation. A man wearing shorts and slippers and in handcuffs was seen bring escorted by police to an ambulance.
Port Moody Police have not responded to a request for comment.
