NEW WESTMINSTER — A man has been found dead in a basement suite in New Westminster, and police say the incident appears suspicious.
Sgt. Diana McDaniel said officers were called to the suite just after 6 a.m. Thursday.
She said witnesses reported hearing what they believed were as many as five gunshots.
Police were on the scene within minutes and found the body in the apartment, McDaniel said.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case.
Police have not released the man’s identity or the cause of death.
“There were sounds of what [an upstairs tenant] thought could have been gunshots coming from the basement suite,” McDaniel said.
Police spent part of Thursday on site, gathering evidence and interviewing neighbours.
