Mounties took one person into custody after a homicide in Langley Monday night. RCMP officers were called around 7 p.m. to the 20300 block of Fraser Highway behind Baselines Pub and the Langley Hotel, where they found one person dead, according to a news release by Holly Largy, an RCMP spokeswoman.

A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the homicide of a homeless man in Langley on Monday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says David Christopher Van Den Brink, of no fixed address, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the Langley RCMP responded to a fight in the 20300-block of Fraser Highway. Police found one man lying on the sidewalk in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Wells Tony Gallagher, a well-known homeless man in Langley.

IHIT says Van Den Brink was arrested near the scene. He has been remanded in custody.

And it appears that Van Den Brink had been released on bail on the latest of a series of charges Monday — the same day of the murder he's now accused of committing.

Van Den Brink has a lengthy criminal record accumulated over the last 14 months.

In April 2014, he was convicted of assault and theft under $5,000 and sentenced to nine months probation.

Last August, he was convicted of possession of stolen property and some probation breaches and got a day in jail.

He was convicted of assault with a weapon last December and theft under $5,000 again and got 44 days in jail and a year on probation.

He was convicted of theft under $5,000 for the third time in a year in February 2015 and sentenced to 12 days in jail.

He was charged again in April with uttering threats, assault and theft under $5,000. He was released on bail and a warrant was issued for him on May 14.

He was back in custody by May 30 and released on $1,000 bail June 1 — the day of the murder.
