Metchosin writer Polly Horvath up for children's literature prize

Susin Nielsen of Vancouver is the other finalist for The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larson.

Judges said the writers created vivid imagery by introducing children to imaginary lands, telling tales of unlikely friendships and raising awareness of issues such as bullying, war and poverty.

The winner will receive $30,000 at the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Awards gala ceremony held on Toronto on Oct. 22.

In 2010, Horvath won the $20,000 Vicky Metcalf Award for Children’s Literature. A writer of children’s and young adult novels, she grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and attended college in Toronto. She lived in New York and Montreal before settling in Metchosin.
