Classical singers needed for new choir

Bruce Farquharson, the musical director for the chamber choir, A Cappella Plus, for 14 years is interested in starting a mixed-voice chamber choir to sing repertoire focused on classical early music but also including music from other periods.

The principal aim is to gather an ensemble of singers, men and women, with good voices, musicality, and the skills to independently learn their vocal parts.

Farquharson has explored the repertoire of Purcell, Byrd, Mozart, Bach, Faure, Britten, Copland, Barber, Rutter, Raminsh and many others. He is past director of the Nanaimo Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus and conducted the Nanaimo Concert Band for three years. He has been vocal director for four of NTG's musical productions, and has collaborated with Malaspina Choir in a production of Carmina Burana.

Much of the repertoire would be sung a cappella but there would be opportunities to collaborate with instrumentalists, string players and/or organ.

Auditions and meetings will be held in May to deal with questions of rehearsal time and place, financial logistics, concert plans, etc. for next fall. E-mail Farquharson ([email protected]) by May 5 to show your interest, including name, address, phone number, vocal range and details of your musical background.
