Are you associated with or running as part of a slate? If so, which one?

No Slate

Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long? If not, what is your connection to that community?

Yes, I have lived in Colwood for 25 years

What is your occupation, and for how long?

I have been doing Medical sales for the past 20 years and started my own company “Precise Surgical and Medical supplies” in 2016

Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.

I was first elected to Council in 2011 and then again in 2014. In 2018 I was elected Mayor for Colwood. I have also been the Board Chair for Westshore Park and Rec from 2012-2016 and Board Chair for the Greater Victoria Public Library from 2016-2018.

Why are you running? What’s your motivation?

Colwood is in an interesting time of transition. For over 100 years, Colwood has had several active mines which have recently stopped operating. Under strong environmental principles, the city has begun to repurpose these lands for residential and commercial use. It is critical that the upcoming Council understands the principles of Master Plan development to build success not only for today, but for future generations that will be calling Colwood home. This is my motivation.

What are your top three issues?

COMMUNITY

I believe that access to Recreation, Libraries and the Arts are the pillars of great communities. These organizations foster healthy living and social connection for citizens of all ages.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSETS

Colwood has picturesque forests, inviting waterfronts, peaceful parks and stunning views. My plan is to negotiate with developers for prime park land, make our natural areas accessible for all ages, and promote Colwood as a destination.

TRANSPORTATION

Colwood needs to work with other municipalities to clear the congested transportation corridors that lead to and from our municipality. I seek creative solutions that would focus on a multi-model public transportation approach, with options that would include the use of our waterways and overland transport, including a Westshore passenger ferry, light rail and a Westshore Rapid bus service.

What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?

Colwood- A community for families.

I envision a community that has everything it needs to allow families to be successful. Fast, effective, green transportation options, parkland that is available for all to experience, and employment opportunities that will allow resident to both live and work here in Colwood.

What’s one “big idea” you have for your community?

In March 2019, BC Ferries published a pre-feasibility study that supported the feasibility and financial viability of a passenger ferry from Royal Bay in Colwood to Ship Point in downtown Victoria. The study suggests a passenger ferry has great potential to reduce traffic congestion in the region while increasing transit ridership and active transportation by providing an alternative to the single occupancy vehicle, thereby helping the region achieve its clean energy goals. At the same time, a unique new connection between the West Shore and downtown Victoria would support our region’s economic recovery and the rebound of the tourism industry as we move beyond the pandemic.
