Leslie Anderson - Highlands council candidate 2022

Leslie Anderson

Are you associated with or running as part of a slate?

No

Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long?

Yes - I have lived here since 1990 (with the exception of 2007-2013).

What is your occupation, and for how long?

I worked in the public service in BC and Yukon for 20 years and have been a management consultant for the past 10 years; I have also just started a PhD program at UVic.

Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.

I have been a Councillor in Highlands for the past 8 years. During this period I have been Council’s representative on the Board of Westshore Parks and Recreation, South Highlands Local Area Plan Task Force, and the liaison for the Heritage Select Committee. Prior to running for elected office I was a member of Council’s Environment Advisory Committee.

Why are you running? What’s your motivation?

I am running to provide continued support for initiatives addressing climate mitigation and resilience, and to help ensure balanced and reasoned discussion concerning all Council business.

What are your top three issues?

Increasing environmental sustainability, economic sufficiency, and community connections

What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?

Highlands will ideally continue to caretake substantial areas of healthy and varied ecosystems, with sound financial reserves and infrastructure in place to address climate threats. We will have increased connections among community members for sharing various types of support, food security, transportation and social networks.
