Kevin Pearson

Are you associated with or running as part of a slate? If so, which one?

Ni

Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long? If not, what is your connection to that community?

Yes, I was born and raised in Sooke since 1957

What is your occupation, and for how long?

Formerly a Millwright at Sooke Forest Products then as an Operations Manager at Canada Post for 35 years.

Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.

Served on Sooke Council two terms from 2011-2018. Progressive thinker and community based decisions what’s good for the entire community not special interest.

Why are you running? What’s your motivation?

Sooke is growing and and problems arising from the growth are frustrating to many who have made their homes here. Traffic and Housing are the two main issues in my opinion that need my attention. As well we need an active Seniors Center and access to primary medical care for everyone.

What are your top three issues?

Traffic, Housing and Process delay in applications.

We need to get people out of their cars and home to their families not waiting in traffic for 20 extra minutes a day. This is a major source of controllable greenhouse gases in our community.

Housing affordability continues erode families quality of life. Inflation will only exasperate this as families are being forced to cut back in other areas.

Speeding up processes by city hall will enable infrastructure to be improved and increase affordability .

What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?

Long term I wish to see smooth traffic flows, clean air with adequate green space and infrastructure to support the community. Access to our shoreline and protected environments that enhance the quality of life in Sooke. More economic engines such as secondary manufacturing and a live and work in Sooke opportunity. A medical centre that is fully functional 24 hours a day .

What’s one “big idea” you have for your community?

An accessible water front that has a tourist appeal that locals and visitors want to be at. Shops, Eatery’s and pleasant space that could host events and musical/creative entertainment.
