Dean Toma - Regional District of Nanaimo director candidate 2022

Dean Toma

Electoral Area C

Are you associated with or running as part of a slate? If so, which one?

Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long? If not, what is your connection to that community?

What is your occupation, and for how long?

Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.

I would be new to politics, but have been serving my community in the civil utilities field for over 15 years. Me and my family of four are active, proud members of the South Forks/ Nanaimo river area. (Area “c” of the Regional District of Nanaimo)

Why are you running? What’s your motivation?

I am running to give back to the community I love. I want to bring a new style of civil governance to the region, where accountability, and transparency bring confidence to the constituents of the area. Where the communities’ concerns are heard, and dealt with in the fashion which most want.

What are your top three issues?

1. Preservation of the community

2. Protection of the community (Fire/ police)

3. Environmental stability

What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?

In 25 years I would like to see my community preserved in the natural beauty that surrounds it today, possibly serviced with some freshly paved roads, and potential water service for homes everywhere in the district.

What’s one “big idea” you have for your community?

Fire protection in the form of a new hall for the area, or a trust set up with current funds to maintain a stand by crew and trucks at the current set up, but with the security of a long term lease.
