Letters: Sideswiped on North Road

'I also hope the Ministry of Transportation and the SCRD team up to fix that corner. It needs a sign warning drivers to yield to pedestrians. The hole should be covered or filled. The road should get a sidewalk.'

Elizabeth Rains points at a hole at the corner of North and Reed Roads that needs fixing.

To the truck driver who sideswiped a senior and left the scene:

I’m writing to the paper because I don’t know who you are. On Saturday, you were driving a white pickup truck on North Road and turning up Reed. My friend and I were on the narrow path that runs along North. To our right was a ditch and then a brush-covered embankment. We walked as close as possible the ditch.

You raced around the corner, too close to the path. My friend jumped away from your truck. There is a deep hole at that corner where the ditch goes under the road. He slid into it.

Driver, I watched you stop and view the accident. Then you revved up your truck and raced away. I was too startled to take down your license plate.

My friend, who is 68 years old, sustained heavy scratches and painful bruising. Could you have slowed before the corner? Could you have given us more room? Could you have left your truck and come by to help?

Although I can’t identify you, I hope you read this and feel ashamed.

I also hope the Ministry of Transportation and the SCRD team up to fix that corner. It needs a sign warning drivers to yield to pedestrians. The hole should be covered or filled. The road should get a sidewalk.
