Shiok opened its first location in Vancouver in 2019 and specializes in classic Singaporean dishes, like laksa. A third location, in New Westminster, will open later in 2024 and will feature the same menu as the original restaurant

With five years and two restaurants, Vancouver's Shiok restaurant will be adding a third location to its roster, this time in New Westminster.

Located at 624 12th St, Shiok will join the mixed commercial and residential area that is bustling with popular local eateries.

The restaurant's name Shiok, is a Singaporean word to express satisfaction.

“That’s what we hope people will say after they eat our food,” owner Susan Teo told The Burnaby NOW in 2022. “It’s so shiok – so good, so delicious.”

Shiok launched on Kingsway in Vancouver in 2019 with a mission to offer classic Singaporean dishes to local diners.

The menu features approachable Singaporean fare like Hainanese Chicken Rice, curries, and Laksa, a fiery soup made with curry noodles (your choice of white or yellow). To round out your meal, try prawn-spiced chicken wings or a classic satay with their house made peanut sauce.

The success of the original Shiok has led to growth for the local business in recent years.

"After surviving the pandemic we opened our second location in the City of Lougheed food court in 2022 to spread the authentic Singaporean flavours we grew up with even further afield," explains a restaurant representative via email.

The Lougheed mall location is an "express" operation, with a limited menu.

The New West restaurant, Shiok Canteen, "will be a casual eatery with the same tried and tested favourites on our menu as our first location on Kingsway," explains the business.

Renovations are underway at the future Shiok Canteen, which was previously a flooring business. Shiok has teased its third restaurant location on its Instagram.
