Repairs on the 112th Street overpass in Delta, damaged by a truck striking it in December, will begin this Friday, April 19.

Repairs will start soon on the 112th Street overpass above Hwy. 99, one of the latest to be damaged in a rash of crashes by big rigs.

But to do the work, the structure will have to be shut down from this Friday, April 19, and will remain closed until Friday, May 31, to allow demolition and reconstruction. Detours will be in effect.

As well, Hwy. 99 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction, also beginning Friday, April 19 at 8 p.m. and continuing until Sunday, April 21, at 5 p.m.

The overpass was damaged when overheight girders loaded on a southbound truck smashed into the underside of the structure on Dec. 28.

That created “significant damage” to the overpass, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said then.

Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting issued the news release last week and told drivers to plan alternate routes, particularly during rush hours and also asked drivers to respect all roadside crews by slowing down.
