PHOTOS: Blackberry Festival Street Party

Annual ode to the abundant berry closed down one of the main thoroughfares in Powell River

On Friday, August 18, thousands of people flocked to Marine Avenue between Duncan and Alberni streets in downtown Powell River to listen to music, meet up with acquaintances and family members, and most importantly, indulge in the tastes of the qathet region’s dedication to all things blackberry.

In addition to the images in the gallery above, photographer Shane Greaves also took video footage of the annual Blackberry Festival street party gathering.

The festivities concluded with a fireworks display at Willingdon Beach. Origins of the local Blackberry Festival date back to the mid-1980s.
