Daniel Wang Agencies: providing financial security Canadians trust

For more than 70 years, the Co-operators has been giving Canadians restful sleep by taking care of their financial futures.

What started as a small co-operative helping farmers take care of one another’s needs now serves more than one million clients across Canada. Among their many services are home and life insurance, travel insurance, business liability and group benefits.

“The Co-operators mandate is to look after the financial security of Canadians and their communities,” says Insurance and Financial Advisor Daniel Wang of Daniel Wang Agencies. “That is the jumping-off point of everything we do.”

Being a Canadian company, the Co-operators’ loyalty is to Canadians, first and foremost, Wang says. And as a co-operative, they are closely connected to the communities they serve.

“We’re not owned by private companies with deep pockets,” says Wang. “We’re a co-operative, just like Modo car share and Mountain Equipment Co-op. At the end of the day, it’s our customers who dictate what direction the insurance company goes.”

Wang, who is of Chinese descent from the island of Mauritius, came to Vancouver 20 years ago. After spending years working in the stressful software design industry, a friend suggested he try the world of insurance. He’s never looked back.

“I love talking to people and listening to what they have to say,” he says. “It’s the best part of what I do.”

Wang, who speaks French and is now is now President of the Vancouver Francophone Chamber of Commerce, also enjoys the fact that the company offers services in multiple languages.

“It makes a huge difference to someone who wants to communicate in their mother tongue,” he says, adding that everyone in his office gives people a warm and friendly welcome, regardless of what language they speak.

“It doesn’t feel like going to the dentist,” he laughs.
