Pitt River middle school students handed out coffee, baked goods and kindness cards to people in downtown Port Coquitlam on Friday.

Shoppers trying to avoid the rain in downtown Port Coquitlam were treated to special kindnesses by Pitt River middle school students on Friday.

Kiren Chand’s Grade 6/7 class didn’t let the lousy weather deter them from handing out free coffee, baked goods, and kindness cards to people in the community to celebrate the season and spirit of giving.

The cards were meant as an inspiration to people and contained quotes from luminaries such as Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama.

Chand said the students were enthusiastic to participate in the Random Acts of Kindness.

They set up tables at Port Coquitlam city hall and another by the Freshmart and approached people and offered them treats and hand-made cards even though it was extremely wet and cold.

As well, students went to nearby Riverside secondary to hand out more treats and cards.

In all 150 people were treated to special acts of kindness, Chand said, with cookies donated by Europe Bakery and the coffee donated by Starbucks.
