The holiday countdown is on!
For many, the holidays are synonymous with gifts, parties and stocking stuffers. While many people love to spoil their friends and loved ones with expensive presents, some prefer to spend their Christmas budget to help those in their community who are in need.
There are many people residing in the Lower Mainland who are unable to cover their basic living expenses, including food, clothing and housing. This situation is challenging all the time, but is even more disheartening during the holidays, which for many is a time of joy and celebration.
When you support these individuals by donating to charitable organizations in the community, your reward will be knowing that you’ve made a positive change to someone’s life. You’ll also have the added bonus of knowing you will receive a year-end charitable tax receipt for your donation.
In Delta, there are a number of different organizations seeking support, including the Canadian Mental Health Association and Deltassist Family and Community Services.
To help you find and choose some causes you are passionate about, the Delta Optimist has created a list of charitable organizations for you to review: https://delta.starlocal.ca/season-of-giving
Are you feeling low on cash this season? Besides providing financial support, you can also give the gift of time by volunteering with an organization.
Happy holidays from our team at the Delta Optimist!
