Delta residents now have another option to report non-emergency matters.

Delta Police this fall launched an online reporting tool where residents can file reports on non-emergency matters.

“One common concern we hear from the community is that wait times can be inconvenient from those calling our non-emergency line.  We understand this can be frustrating, particularly if you just want to report your car was rummaged through but nothing stolen, for example,” police note in a news release.

The online reporting is accessible through the front page of deltapolice.ca website.

“Online reporting provides another way for anyone to report an incident that happened in Delta, or on the Tsawwassen First Nation,” said Inspector Ciaran Feenan, head of front line patrol at Delta Police. “Property damage, fraud under $5,000, or reporting a traffic incident are all examples of things that can be reported online now.”

General community concerns can be reported via these means as well.

“Our department is known for its ‘No Call Too Small’ approach, and we hope online reporting will make it more convenient for people to let our officers know about those little things,” said Feenan.

The public can still call the non-emergency line at 604-946-4411 as before.

“It’s important to stress that online reporting isn’t meant for emergencies, or reporting crimes in progress” said Feenan.

From 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, online reports will go directly to on-duty staff who will assess them and determine next steps.

When reporting overnight, the report may not be reviewed until the next day.

Once your online report has been submitted, DPD will contact you within the next 24 hours.

The online forms requests basic information such as your email address and date of birth.

Police will also need to know the date and location of the incident or details such as the licence plates of vehicles involved.

Police note the process will take up to 15 minutes and is mobile friendly.

The online reporting system is currently not configured to accept videos or photos directly.

Those will need to be provided to an officer assigned to the file.
