Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters, an award-winning Toastmasters Club, specializing public speaking and leadership training, invites you to join us for an evening of fun and learning. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, July 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tsawwassen Mills Training Room. The meeting theme is ‘New Year's Party’ and the club guarantees and evening of laughter and learning. The summer car boot sales are held twice a month at Boundary Bay Regional Park close to Centennial Beach. The next sale is Saturday, July 27 from 8:30 a.m. to noon – weather permitting. Cost is $10 for vendors (two parking spots to be set up at 8 a.m.) Supply own display material, ground sheets etc. No pre-bookings. Have you attended a suicide bereavement support group and want to connect with others with similar experiences on an ongoing or occasional basis? Then join the Centre for Supportive Care’s drop-in, free Suicide Bereavement Alumni Group. Open to all communities. No commitment to attend every month. Cyclists who want to ride with others for fun and fitness can meet in the Ladner Pioneer Library parking lot Tuesdays and Thursdays weather permitting. Delta Deas Rowing Club has published its “Learn to Row” schedule for summer 2019. All programs take place at Deas Island Regional Park in Delta. Rowing is a “sport for life” and the club offers programs for high school students as well as adults from 18 to 88 years of age. The Tsawwassen Order of Old Bastards (TOOBs) has been quietly helping many South Delta groups and individuals since 1984. The club's fundraising is done through food services at community events such as the Ladner Bandfest and the Tsawwassen Sun Festival. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 8 Delta is looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer group dedicated to saving lives on the waters around Delta. Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Would you like to get together with like-minded people to share ideas, techniques and good conversation? Knit & Stitch is offered at all three Delta libraries. It runs Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ladner Pioneer Library, Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library. All ages and abilities are welcome.

 

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

 

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is interviewing potential volunteers to serve as crew or support personnel for its Delta Lifeboat. Professional training is given in seamanship, navigation, medical, and search and rescue techniques. Contact John at 604-760-5218 for more information.

Happy Hour at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 26. There will be free entertainment. Grab a few friends or come on your own to the first of many KV Happy Hours. Socialize, enjoy some appies, listen and/or dance to music and wind down from the week.

 

KinVillage Travel is going to Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts Granville Island and on a boat ride on Monday, July 29. Bus leaves White Spot in Tsawwassen at 10 a.m. and from McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner at 10:15 a.m., returning at approximately 4 p.m. Cost is $65 for members and $70 for guests. Arts & Crafts time at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. No artistic skill required – just a sense of fun. Last time we painted rocks. What will it be this time? Come get your creative juices flowing.

 

McKee Walking Club walks rain or shine every Tuesday and Friday. Meet at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the McKee Seniors Recreation Centre.

 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre needs new members for its carpet bowling club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is only 50 cents.

 

A Modelers Club meets at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Members build models of all scales, discuss the hobby, and share tips and secrets. Members must have a current McKee membership.

SPECIAL EVENTS

 

Join the Boundary Bay Park Association in an ongoing effort to help restore our natural areas while learning about coastal plants. Coastal Restoration: Wildflower Seeding Event is Friday, July 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Centennial Beach. The event is free, appropriate for all ages and tools, gloves, snacks, and directions are provided. Meet behind the Centennial beachside cafe building near the parking lot. The fourth annual Primerose Hotrod & Classic Car Show is this Sunday, July 21. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Primerose Mediterranean Restaurant (6165 BC-17A) with proceeds benefiting Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. Registration fee is $20. Day of registration takes place from 8 to 10 a.m. There will be a pancake breakfast to kick off the event at 8 a.m.

 

Jog for the Bog this Sunday, July 21 and help celebrate International Bog Day. The Burns Bog Conservation Society's Jog for the Bog fundraiser is an annual chip-timed 5K or 10K run or walk through the Delta Nature Reserve. This event raises awareness about local peatland Burns Bog, and celebrates International Bog Day. Bring your whole family to enjoy the live entertainment, a delicious pancake breakfast, and a variety of exhibitors. The event runs from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Delta Nature Reserve (10389 Nordel Court).

 

The Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office in Ladner’s Trenant Park Square will host a free presentation about reducing shipping impact on whales on Wednesday, July 24 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. and 7 to 8:15 p.m. RSVP required. Visit https://www.portvancouver.com/delta.

 

Poet Tiffany Stone will perform as part of the Fraser Valley Regional Library’s Summer Reading Club. A 45-minute show with rhythm and rhyme and plenty of time for everyone to participate in the fun with words will be held on Friday, July 26 at the Ladner Pioneer Library (11 a.m.) and the Tsawwassen Library (2 p.m.).

 

The Vancouver Aquarium’s AquaVan is coming to the Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office in Ladner’s Trenant Park Square on Wednesday, July 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Touch a sea star, examine a sea urchin and be amazed by the wonders of the marine world through their mobile aquarium.

 

ARTS

The Lower Mainland Mandolin Society, a non-profit group, welcomes a mandolin group from Langendorf, Germany who will be performing at New Hope Church, 11838-88th Ave, Delta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. The group consists of 19 players from ages 14 to 55.  Admission is $15 at the door.

 

Did you have fun playing in a band in high school?  If so, dust off your instrument, contact Curt Jantzen, and then join us in Ladner Tuesday evenings starting Sept. 10.  The Delta Music Makers Concert Band is a fun group of adults who love to rehearse and play concerts in the community.  Especially needed now are trumpets and clarinets, or any instrument except alto sax (that section is full).  [email protected].

 

If you love music and have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument, then join Loades of Music Concert Band. Share the joy of making music with other adult musicians.
