Burnaby’s Luna Lu posted two rounds under par en route to cracking the top-five leaderboard at the Canadian Juvenile Girls Golf championships in Lethbridge, Alta., last week.

In a particularly strong field, led by a number of B.C. players, the Burnaby teen was a steady presence among the top four contenders over four days at the Lethbridge Country Club.

Her four-day total of 287 (74, 68, 71, 74) was also good enough to place her ninth for the junior girls championships.

Lu, 12, actually stood fifth overall in both juvenile and junior after a sizzling 4-under-par 68 on Day 2, five strokes back of then-leading Tiffany Kong of Vancouver. It also tied her with Brampton, Ont., native Brooke Rivers for the best score of the day.

She recorded six birdies on the second day, including three on the course’s four par-3 holes, and shot par-or-better on the back nine.

On Day 3, she came into the clubhouse with a 1-under-par 71, the fifth-best score on the day.

On the final round, the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course player recorded four bogies over the final 14 holes, preventing her from placing in the top four.

In June she placed sixth overall at the Future Links Western championship at Wolf Creek Golf Club in Ponoka, Alta.
