Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 6 to 13:

On July 11, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 12300 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park, after the driver of a commercial truck lost control on a sharp corner and the truck ended up tipping over onto its side. This caused the coolers inside the truck’s box to shift, hit the roof and rip it open, spilling its seafood contents out all over the ditch. Fishing crew attended the scene and collected as much of the catch as possible and put it back into the coolers. The incident blocked northbound traffic until the truck was towed away. Fortunately, the lone driver did not report any significant injuries. The driver was issued a violation ticket for speed relative to conditions. The file has been referred to ICBC.

Bike Theft

• Overnight on July 7, a suspect gained entry to a parking garage in the 600 block of Mahan Road, Gibsons, and stole a women’s 2012 specialized stump jumper mountain bike. The suspect appears to have used a screwdriver to force an exterior door open, cut the padlock off the bike locker door, then cut through the rack where the stolen bike had been secured. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-4394.

Impaired Driving
• On July 7, police initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle that rolled through a stop sign on Roberts Creek Road and Lower Road, Roberts Creek. The Class 7 driver, who advised he’d consumed alcohol earlier in the evening, was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After a “warn” result, the driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

• On July 10, police witnessed an eastbound vehicle driving below the speed limit and swerving on Gibsons Way near Pratt Road, Gibsons. Police initiated a traffic stop and noted the driver was exhibiting possible signs of intoxication from alcohol. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Theft from vehicle
• On July 7, around 4:40 a.m., two suspects were captured on video surveillance gaining entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 700 block of Creekside Crescent, Gibsons, and rummaging around the interior. The suspects stole some small change before leaving the scene on foot. Unfortunately, the image quality is not good enough to make out anything other than the two suspects were wearing a white hoodie and grey hoodie respectively.

Break and Enter
• Between July 5 and 8, a suspect cut through a storage cage at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a 20-pound propane tank. No other theft or damage was reported.

Collision
• On July 8, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Reed Road near Payne Road, Gibsons, after the first vehicle turning left off Reed onto Payne cut the corner too sharply and clipped the second vehicle, which was waiting at the stop sign to turn right onto Reed. The second vehicle driver admitted he’d cut it too close and was issued a violation ticket for failing to stay right. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
