Teachers and students from SD46 combined to create teams representing the north and south of the Lower Sunshine Coast.

It took one teacher and two Chatelech Secondary students to win this year’s North versus South hockey game and fundraiser.

Organized annually by the District Student Leadership Team (DSLT), teams composed of students and teachers from the high schools of School District No. 46 (SD46) compete for glory at the Gibsons ice rink.

Goals in the 3-0 game came from English teacher Geoff Davis, and Grade 11 students Ethan Geue and Jake Van Klinken.

“Each team had a couple of players from the Sunshine Coast Blues Midget A team so there was definitely some competition out there,” said DSLT member and student trustee Jessica Carroll.

Despite their loss, Carroll said the South team’s goaltender, Elphinstone Secondary Grade 11 student Liam Allen, had a great game. “He was diving all over the crease and saving all kinds of shots.”

The crowd also had a chance to compete through a duck toss and goal scoring competition.

The Jan. 22 friendly game brought in $1,000 for the Sunshine Coast Food Bank.
