Sunshine Coast resident Dorothy Fraser was honoured posthumously at the Canadian Federation of University Women’s Notable Women Banquet during the group’s AGM last month.

The banquet was part of CFUW’s 100th anniversary celebrations, held at the historic Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg, where the very first CFUW meeting took place in 1919.

Fraser’s sisters, Nancy Hardy and Jo Millard, and daughter Kathy Wilson received the award in her name.

Representing CFUW-SC was delegate Kathryn Caswell.

Fraser was a past president of CFUW-SC, as well as past chair of the Bursary Society. In 2016 she received the Celebration of Excellence Award bestowed by Sunshine Coast Community Services.

Also at the celebrations, CFUW was presented with a plaque from the Historic Sites and Historic Monuments Board of Canada, honouring the group’s historic milestone.

For the past century, CFUW has played an important role as an advocate for social, economic, education and legal status of women.

The organization has been instrumental in advancing many human rights causes which have had a positive impact on the lives of countless Canadians.
