Roberts Creek: Around the corner

Springtime is fast approaching (we hope) and with it brings a rebirth of activity.

Roberts Creek Commu-nity Association is planning for Earth Day, an important annual celebration in this neck of the woods where we share our love of the blue marble we call home and share ways to keep it sustainable. Right now they are seeking an intrepid and organized individual to coordinate Earth Day on April 26. Are you passionate about the planet and community? Enjoy networking with like-minded people? Earth Day coordination might be your jam. Responsibilities include: call out and coordination of food and craft vendors, musicians and volunteers, promotion of event, set up and tear down of venue and stage. The honorarium for the successful completion of this event is $1,000. Contact RCCA with questions or expressions of interest by email: [email protected]

Get ready to dance, Gumboot Nation – Astro-color is here! There may be tickets at the door ($25), so get to the Hall, 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, a 19+ event.

Also a great Friday night out is the Modelos, Feb. 28 at the #219. Riding high on their new release Barrel Fever, this alt-country, surf rock extravaganza will have you yipping for more. Having jammed at the Railway Club sessions with at least one of the members, I can personally attest to the talents they bring to fill up yer ear holes! See you there, Joe!

Earlier Friday, Feb. 28 (and the last Friday of each month) the Alliance4Democracy hosts Drinks for Our Future, an open discussion on urgent matters facing our society, at the Gumboot Café from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This month’s hot button topic is private, for-profit, seniors care. Discuss how we can work individually and collectively to build a stronger progressive community.

Saturday, Feb. 29 at 11 a.m. the StreamKeepers continue to remove the invasive plants (mostly ivy) from the area around Malcolm Creek. Bring gloves, eye protection and small clippers. Meet near the bridge over Malcolm Creek on the path at the bottom of Metcalfe Road. A pickup or a trailer to take to the green waste depot would be awesome!

Yoga for happiness at Om Sweet Om Yoga and Thai Massage. Take some time for yourself and come and experience heart-opening and uplifting yoga flow with deep and beautiful stillness. Sliding scale $10 to $17, 10 a.m. Sundays, corner of Krause and Lysander.

Next Friday night, March 6, it’s Brain Freeze Trivia, 7:45 p.m. sharp at the Little Legion! Bring a team and see how many trivia tidbits you can identify, $5 per person, teams of five.

Want to kick start your spring? One Straw Society is running a workshop entitled Planning and Preparing Your Garden Using Permaculture on Saturday, March 7, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Community School in the Community Use Room.
