This Saturday, July 28 will be another painful day for Ron Mahy.

Mahy, along with a number of friends, family and fellow motorbike enthusiasts, will lead the fifth memorial ride from Richmond to Langley to remember his daughter, Christy, who died on July 30, 2014, after being struck by a car while waiting to cross the road at an intersection on Sea Island.

Christy, 36 at the time, was on her way home to Burkeville after running some errands that fateful afternoon and had stopped her bicycle at the junction of Russ Baker Way and the Dinsmore Bridge.

As she was waiting for the lights to change, a Pontiac Aztek SUV bearing a novice driver “N” sticker slammed into her.

It’s understood the driver in question left the country after the accident and, almost four years on, has still to be returned to face justice in Canada, despite there being multiple witnesses.

“We’re anticipating quite a few Harleys; last year there were 70,” said Mahy, his emotions still raw at the lack of closure for his daughter.

“We will keep on going until there is some kind of justice for Christy and for us. There is still nothing, after four years.”

Mahy added that anyone who knew much-loved Christy is welcome to come along Saturday to join them in their cars or bikes or to see them off.

The ride leaves the parking lot at the Flying Beaver pub at 4760 Inglis Dr. at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
