A Victoria cafe has closed temporarily after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
Bear and Joey, at Fort and Cook streets, posted a notice on their social media Friday saying the cafe would be closed while they completed a deep cleaning and worked with Island Health on a “robust review” of the restaurant.
The cafe owners, Peter and Stephanie Wood, said in the statement they’ve been advised by the health authority that the likelihood of transmission of the virus to other staff or customers is “extremely low.”
The infected staff member was at work Sept. 17 to Sept. 21, but did not appear to have any symptoms during that time.
They did not interact with customers, and wore a mask while working, the owners said.
If anyone needs to be contacted about potential exposure, the health authority will do so using the customer contact information kept by the cafe for contact tracing, they said.
The staff member is at home and feeling well.
The cafe will post further updates about a reopening date on their social media channels.
