A handful of Vancouver Island acts have been named to the Top 20 of the annual Peak Performance Project.

The B.C.-wide competition, staged each year by Vancouver radio station 102.7 The PEAK and industry association Music B.C., named Victoria acts Fallbrigade, Dougal Bain McLean, and Towers and Trees to the Top 20 roster during a launch party at Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver.

Also included on the list is Victoria-bred, Vancouver-based Rolla Olak, and Ladysmith native Ryan McMahon, who performs in the Vancouver-based group The Lion, The Bear, The Fox.

The acts selected will conduct a series of exercises, including a week-long boot camp in August, in order to place among the final five. The top three will perform live in a final showdown Nov. 21 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, at which the winning act will be presented with $102,700. Second place nets $75,000 while third place takes home $50,000.

Victoria group Current Swell won the contest in 2011 and has gone on to international fame.
