VIU plays host to national men’s soccer tournament

The Vancouver Island University Mariners men’s soccer team will look to add yet another national medal as they play host to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships, beginning today in Nanaimo.

 

The Vancouver Island University Mariners men’s soccer team will look to add yet another national medal as they play host to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships, beginning today in Nanaimo.

With a gold, two silvers and a bronze to their credit since 2010, the Mariners open play at 5:30 p.m. against the Indiens du Collège Ahuntsic of Montreal.

The tournament opens with the Keyano Huskies of Fort McMurray, Alta., versus P.E.I.’s Holland Hurricanes at 10 a.m., followed by the Algonquin Thunder of Ottawa versus the Pacwest champion Douglas Royals at 12:30 p.m. The Durham Lords of Ontario meet the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks of Edmonton at 3 p.m.

Championship quarter-finals are slated for Thursday at 3 and 5:30 p.m. with the bronze- and gold-medal games set for Saturday at 2 and 4:30 p.m., respectively. All games are set for Merle Logan Field.

Keyano College is seeded No. 1 in Pool A ahead of Algonquin College, Douglas College and Holland College. Pool B is led by Durham at No. 1, Collège Ahuntsic, VIU and NAIT.
