Veteran former Scottish and English pro Blair Sturrock headlines the Vancouver Island Soccer League roster for the annual all-star showdown against the Fraser Valley Soccer League today in Port Moody.

The inter-league showcase is in its fifth season and alternates between the Island and Fraser Valley.

The Island will be looking for regaining bragging rights after Fraser Valley won last year’s game.

Sturrock leads a quartet of players from VISL league-leading Lakehill on the Island roste, with teammates Tarnvir Bhandal, Dorian Colopisis and Gareth Langdon joining him. That is matched by the Bays foursome of Ryan Ashlee, Adam Ravenhill, James Rhodes and veteran VISL star player Patrick Nelson, the defending league MVP.

Nanaimo has three players named with Dan Cato, Geoff Hackett, Daniel Magog. That is matched by the Mid-Island trio of Mateo Kostering, Aly Adeeb and Dan Citra.

Vic West has two players picked with Nicolas Budisa and goalkeeper Nolan Wirth out of the Oregon State Beavers of the NCAA Pac-12.

Also selected are Sam Prette from Saanich Fusion and Steve Scott from Cowichan FC.

The VISL team will be coached by Richard Fast of Bays.

The game today will be preceded by a contest featuring the VISL and Fraser Valley masters all-star teams. — Times Colonist
