Victoria Royals rally to beat Cougars

The Victoria Royals, down 2-0 early in the first period, defeated the Prince George Cougars 5-3 in a key WHL game before 1,841 fans Friday night at the CN Centre.

The Victoria Royals, down 2-0 early in the first period, defeated the Prince George Cougars 5-3 in a key WHL game before 1,841 fans Friday night at the CN Centre.

The win moved ninth-place Victoria (17-33-6) to within one point of the Cougars and Spokane Chiefs, losers to Everett, in the battle for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Cougars and Chiefs are tied in seventh place for the last two playoff slots.

It was Victoria’s first win over Prince George this season in eight games. The Cougars (19-32-3), however, are in a freefall with seven consecutive losses and 16 losses in their last 18 games, including 10 in a row at home.
