Victoria HarbourCats trounce Kelowna Falcons

The Victoria HarbourCats (5-4) beat the Kelowna Falcons 12-1 in the eighth inning of a West Coast League baseball game Saturday night in the Okanagan. Third-baseman Harrison Spohn began the onslaught for Victoria with a home run in the first inning.

Third-baseman Harrison Spohn began the onslaught for Victoria with a home run in the first inning. The game, in progress at press time, was the second of a three-game set against the Falcons (1-6), which ends with a matinée matchup today.

The HarbourCats got a pair of two-run homers and seven RBIs from newcomer Tyson Hays, from NCAA Illinois State, to beat the Falcons 15-5 in the opener of the set on Friday evening.

The HarbourCats return to the Island for a three-game set against the Bend Elks of Oregon on Monday night at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park. The HarbourCats will retire the jersey of pitcher Claire Eccles, the first female player in WCL history, before Monday’s game.
