Sweets cool off HarbourCats

The Victoria HarbourCats rolled into Walla Walla on Monday after sweeping the Bend Elks over the weekend in Oregon, but their luck ran out in Washington state. The Sweets defeated the HarbourCats 6-3 in West Coast League action at Borleske Stadium.

Tyson Hays and Kyle Harper hit their fourth home runs of the season each for Victoria but it wasn’t enough. Hays finished with three hits and two RBIs.

The North Division first-half champion HarbourCats are 5-3 in the second-half of the season and 23-12 overall. The Sweets are 2-1 and 20-10. The clubs continue their three-game set tonight and Wednesday in Walla Walla.

The HarbourCats return home to begin a three-game set Friday night against the Yakima Valley Pippins at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

Meanwhile, the HarbourCats got home runs from Jason Willow and Nick Adams in a 7-5 victory over the Elks on Sunday. Six-foot-four reliever Connor Barison from the NCAA Pac-12 Washington State Cougars took the win.

Victoria beat Bend 13-4 in a late-finishing game Saturday night.
