Jim Rutledge celebrated his 63rd birthday in style Friday.

The Victoria golfer won the PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada at Connaught Club in Medicine Hat, Alta. The veteran former PGA Tour and PGA Champions Tour player, a member of Uplands, shot a 16-under three-round total of 200 with rounds of 64, 70 and 66 from Wednesday through Friday.

That was four shots clear of runners-up Philip Jonas of Saskatoon and Scott Allred of Elbow Springs and earned Rutledge $7,000 for first place.

It was Rutledge’s seventh title in the event, one behind the record of eight held by Canadian golf legend Moe Norman.

Rounding out the top five this year were Kent Fukushima of Calgary at 8-under and Gordon Percy of Smiths Falls, Ont., at 3-under.
