Red-hot Victoria Grizzlies maul Vernon Vipers

The Victoria Grizzlies extended their B.C. Hockey League winning streak to three games Friday night in Vernon. The Grizzlies parlayed a big first period into a 5-1 victory over the Vipers in front of 2,055 fans at Kal Tire Place.

Connor Marritt scored first for Vernon before Darwin Lakoduk, Brendan Bowie and Marty Westhaver replied for the Grizzlies to close out the opening frame. It was Westhaver’s third goal of the season.

Third-period goals by Stephen Konryod and Bryce Anderson sealed the deal for Victoria.

Joe Howe was a big factor in goal for the Grizzlies with 41 saves to be named game second star behind Anderson, who had a two-point night.

Max Palaga made 25 saves for Vernon (2-2).

The Grizzlies (3-2) are in Salmon Arm tonight to face the Silverbacks and in Trail on Sunday to play the Smoke Eaters.
