The Westshore Rebels (5-1) bring a three-game winning streak into today’s B.C. Football Conference game against the Langley Rams (5-2) at 4 p.m. at Starlight Stadium. The teams are tied for second place in the table on points but Westshore holds a game in hand.
Langley quarterback Palaina Hopper leads the BCFC in passing with 1,620 yards with Ethan Pickard of Westshore second with 1,585 despite having played one less game. Pickard leads the league with 15 touchdown passes with Hopper third with 10. Hopper is also behind Vancouver Island Raiders’ quarterback Sadler Smith’s 14.
Hopper’s favourite target has been Terrel Jones, who leads the league in reception yards with 605, ahead of second-place Ruben Bonsu of the VI Raiders’ 531 yards. Harassing Hopper today on defence will be Ty Ochitwa of Westshore, who leads the league with four sacks, and Rebels teammate Cody McMahon, tied for third in the league with three sacks.
The fourth-place Fraser Valley Huskers (3-3) play the Broncos (1-5) in Kamloops in today’s other game. The BCFC-leading Okanagan Sun were undefeated at 7-0 heading into Saturday night’s game in Prince George against the Kodiaks (1-6).
The VI Raiders (1-6) have a bye week ahead of next Saturday’s game against the Broncos at Nanaimo District Secondary School field. — Times Colonist
