It was a freshman season like no other at Idaho State University and now the school wants to return the favour for Natalie Doma Boblit.

The basketball star, who first starred for the Mount Douglas Rams and the Canada’s national team, will be among seven former athletes inducted into the Idaho State University Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 27.

Doma Boblit, who was born in Toronto and moved to Victoria at age 10, recorded one of the best freshman seasons in school history with a season average of 11.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She was an All-Big Sky Conference selection in her sophomore season and was named to the Big Sky All-Tournament Team. In her senior year at Mount Doug, Doma Boblit earned a Premier Athlete Award and was named top female athlete in the province in 2004.

UVic’s Baird earns top weekly honour

First she conquered Canada West, now Rachel Baird is queen of the nation.

On Tuesday, the soccer player was named Canada West Female Athlete of the Week for her four-goal performance over the weekend, helping the University of Victoria Vikes to a pair of win in Saskatchewan over the Cougars and Huskies.

On Wednesday, Baird, who hails from Nanaimo, was honoured as the U Sports Female Athlete of the Week.

Baird has started all 12 games for the Vikes this season and thanks to her sharp shooting last weekend, has moved into a tie for fifth in the country in goal scoring with seven.
