Late goal lifts Cowichan Valley Capitals to victory over Victoria Grizzlies

Max Bulawka scored with 25 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Cowichan Valley Capitals a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies on Wednesday night in the B.C. Hockey League Island Division at Weyerhaeuser Arena in Port Alberni.

Grizzlies forward Henri Schreifels, with his fourth goal of the season, opened scoring in the first period on the power play. Jackson Alexeev tied it for Cowichan Valley before the first period ended and Joey Moffat’s third of the season made it 2-1 for the Caps at 2:08 of the second period. Ellis Rickwood tied it for Victoria in the third period with his seventh goal of the season.

The Grizzlies fell to 2-2. Cowichan Valley, blanked 2-0 by the undefeated Nanaimo Clippers (3-0) on Tuesday night, won their first game of the campaign to improve to 1-2-1.

Cowichan Valley plays Nanaimo on Friday night and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (1-1-1) meet the Capitals, while the Grizzlies play the Clippers on Saturday.

Each team is playing 20 games in the pandemic-abbreviated season with all games being played without fans in Weyerhaeuser Arena.
